"just installed 2 new gen 6 454 in place of my 92 454 crusaders, they now for some reason now run the cam with the crank with a std chain and reverse cut the cam/dist gear, in 15 hours I have completly destroyed 3 distributors !!! first 2 were crudader delcos, then was told to switch to mallorys, that lasted 20 min. they get so hot the rotor dist cap melts !! I know the the reverse cut pulls the shaft down, but what is going on..engine co. said a dist gear change was needed..that proved wrong....thanks Rob"

You need the dist. with the thrust bearing installed on the drive gear. Call your local Crusader distributor (not dealer) they will be able to give you the PN.

"Rick is right. Some additional help if you have not found the right distributor yet:
Mallory makes a distributor to handle the loading of the backward rotating cam. The part numbers are:
Mallory YLE624AV for LH rotation and YLE624BV for RH rotation. Sierra part numbers are 18-5484 and 18-5485 respectively.

These are Delco EST-like distributors. I don't think any others are available, but could be wrong.
Hope that helps,
mike"

"I have a 1980 ford 302 counter rotating engine that the selinoid stuck on and fried the starter, alternator, points, coil etc.I have replaced all and got engine running again but it runs very rough and wont idle well.the coil gets extemly hot whenever key is in on position wether eingne is running or not,so i bypassed wiring harness with jumper wires and get same results.changed coil 3 times with coils that work fine on port engine.could this somehow be a distributor problem? If not what could be causing this? thaks, jeron"

"Rob:

Chryslers also use a special distributor for the reverse rotators, to counter that thrust load. Find one of those and you'll be fine.

Jeron:

You need to start a new post of your own, please.
