Hi I have had a nightmare with this outdrive, bolts had seized and rounded so had to remove the whole drive to replace impeller, its a 2002 and never been apart by the looks of it, anyway after reassembly I can select forward fine, neutral is good also but reverse jumps out of gear and proceeds to knock when it does, is this just a drop bottom half again select neutral and refit or something else entirely? ...any help appreciated

Ayuh,... At that age, I'm guessin' the lower shift cable is worn out,....

Merc Alphas are always worked on in Forward, never neutral or reverse,...

No shift cable is good, or it was when I took off the drive I think it may not have been completely in forward on the lower unit it gets worse in any case just dropped the bottom half and the oil is emulsified just in the bottom half..... I may have a leak

GEN II`s have a habit of cracking the plastic shift shaft housing if removed or installed in anything but foward gear.
