reverse lock not working after water pump replacement

78 or 79 40 HP 2 stroke electric start. SN 5367562 Finally got the motor running well but it tilts up in reverse (found out while trying to get back on the trailer first time, oops) From what I've been researching, I likely got the reverse lock out cam on wrong when I replaced the impeller. I pulled the LU and replaced it without knowing what that cam did so that's on me. What I'm lookin for is how to install it correctly. Pictures or a procedure would be great. TIA

In case anyone's got the same issue - Everything was installed correctly, the cam was just worn. Had to pull the lower unit and reinstall it (i do dislike doing that) to learn everything was right. I just had to adjust the rod length at the hook to accommodate for the wear. I had to adjust it a lot - so much for the seller "everything works great". It hasn't locked in reverse in a long time.

Later models had a stainless steel inlay on the cam "ramp" to keep them from wearing out. I've seen the plastic ones like yours that were completely destroyed. Keeping the reverse lock pivot pin and yolk lubricated helps minimize wear.
