i have a 1996 100hp outboard that has a problem shifting into reverse. i have had to replace the shift cam twice and now will need another because the edge above the groove that the shift nose aligns with is getting damaged beyond use. When i have put in a new one it works for a very short period of time but then it will not engage the reverse gear. both the nose and the shift cam are damaged from the gears not meshing and creating a pulsing action. I asked a local repair place and they have not provided any solution. The slide that connects to the shifter cable does move all the way back when operated with the controls so i do not believe it is the shifter cable. I have tried to manually hold the slide back when it "chatters" but the reverse will still not engage fully. The forward gear works great. any suggestions would be appreciated
