"Dropped the lower unit today
"Dropped the lower unit today on my 1972 Evinrude 50hp electric shift to replace water impeller and replace seals in lower unit, due to water mixing with gear lube. A couple of questions: I noticed that the gasket around the exhaust housing is cracked, is it necessary to replace this? Also the Manufactuer repair manual states to use Sealer 1000 on screws that bolt the lower unit to the housing as well as the mating surfaces of the lower unit and housing. Is there another product I can use in place of this? Also is it a water tight connection between the lower unit and motor housing? I also noticed that one of the wires to the shift solidnoid is frayed, how should I go about fixing this?"
