Repower help

I have a 1988 Cape Dory Flybridge cruiser with a single Chrysler 360. It has low oil pressure and am considering repowering with a crusader 5.7 fuel injected. I am unable to find the height of the crusader from engine mount to top of engine to verify it will fit. I've talked to a couple of crusader guys who assure me it will fit but would like to have some hard numbers. My engine hatch is notched out for the flame arrrestor on the chrysler, so clearance is an issue. Any help is appreciated.

Eztbone – I don’t intend for this to be a plug for a specific dealer but….I purchased a Chrysler longblock (First Mate) from a company in Holliston, MA (www.1800runsnew.com) and they also sold Crusaders. I found them to be pretty helpful so, even if you’ve already got a source lined up, they might be willing/able to answer your questions about height/fitment vs. the 360 (since they sell both).

My first thought upon reading your post was to ask why you wouldn’t go for the ease of simply repowering with a new/reman Chrysler. However, assuming your looking at one of Crusader’s complete engine packages……they’re a pretty tempting deal if the boat is worth the $$$.
