I have a 1987 mariner 45hp 4cylinder outboard with a bad t-stat.where is it located on these motors?

To my knowledge there isn't one on that motor. What kind of problem are you having?

The overheat alarm sounds at WOT after a couple of minutes running but goes off after turning the throttle down. It seems to be getting plenty of water as the pee hole shoots water like a water pistol but none comes thru the exhaust holes in back...

Marci is right. these motors dont have a thermostat or even a pressure relief valve. Check your spark plugs to make sure there is no trace of water getting into the powerhead (precautionary check) then replace your waterpump.

The Plugs look fine and the water pump is only 6 months old. can there be a way to clean the water passages? the pee hole is shooting water 6-8 feet from the motor but none is coming out the exhaust holes on the back. "

" Troy if you read my latest zap bout my 78 javelin i'd say we have the same type of problem, you may have a bad seal on the pickup tube from the water pump to the powerhead, I'm hoping thats what it is with mine tho i am asking for verification before i put the leg back on, I think i may have had a bad grommet, regards Brian "
