Replacing old electrical questions.

Hey guys, I have a 19ft Trophy CC I'm looking to replace most of the electrical wires/components on. Now, I'm an avionics mechanic for the Army so, wiring is something I do on a daily basis. My biggest thing is my battery dies if I leave it hooked up. So I need to install a battery switch. Never done one and just looking for some pointers. I know it can't be too hard just curious. There is also a bunch of unused/cut wires in the bundle under the console. Should I just leave them or go through the trouble of tracing them out? I'm just looking for a little bit of help from some guys that have done this before. Thanks in advance!
 
It is never good to have a indirect short how fast will it drain a fully charged battery? The quick fix is a battery switch at the battery or a dual battery switch. You can turn the switch off and charge the battery safely without disconnecting it. Install a new fuse block with a grounding bar and just start from scratch and fuse everything. Keep the ignition system and guages on its own circuit and run everything else off of the accy fuse block. I also put a accy master power light on the dash it is easy to leave the power on. If you pull two large guage wire from the battery to the fuse block + and - be sure and fuse the pos wire at the battery also and that will make it easier to add appliances. Use marine grade tinned wire, solder the lug ends and shrink wrap the solder ends.
