"I am currently planning on replacing all the coolant hoses and raw water intake hoses on my crusader 270 engines. Any suggestions on the best way to purchasing these hoses and tackling this task? The boat 4 yrs new to me, not sure when they were replaced last, and rather replace before its too late. Some appear to be ok, no leaks, some have some dry-rot on them. She lives in the salt water 6 months out of the year. Ahh Spring has sprung…."

"measure them for size and length. Buy thte hose in bulk, usually 12.5ft section though you can somemtimes get a 25' length. count the hose clamps, makaing sure your below the waterline connections are doubled and then buy High Quality Stainless Steel replacements; again, bulk will be cheaper.

I'd also flush the freshwater side before changing the hoses.

Be careful with the hoses at the heat exchanger, their fittings are thinest. I usually cut the hose to ease removal. The exchanger to the circulating pump on the front of the engine is best replaced with a molded item."

If these are molded hoses (have built in curves) then take them to a friendly NAPA store and match them up. You'll have to cut off the part ogf the new hose you don't need. Just be sure to get the same diameter and bends (approximately).

"Hi, I have just ordered complete raw water hoses kit to replace my old 80s 454 engines hoses. Does any one know if I need to refill the circuit with fresh water once being replaced? just wonder if when the existing circulating water will be drained the water pump may not run once starting the engine ...? Thanks"

"If you're changing the raw water hoses, that circuit will refill itself after the hoses are changed, provided they are installed correctly and the raw water pump is working."
