"I have a 24 ft Pursuit Denali (4500 lbs) that needs a new engine:

1)Will a 5.0L(220hp) engine be sufficient without significantly affecting the performance of the boat. The 12 year old 5.7L(250hp) engine was more than enough to power the boat.

2)If 1) is yes, do I need a different counter-rotating prop and/or other modifications to the lower unit or hull to use a 5.0L(220hp) engine.

Thanks"

"Tim, with your mention of "counter rotating prop", is it safe to assume that you have the Duo Prop drive?
If so, that is the reason that the 5.7L had more than enough power! The DP adds an amazing amount of performance to most boats!

My question would be: "Why change from a 5.7L to a 5.0L?"

And my answer to the ratio question would be NO.... you stay with the same ratio since either of those engines would use same!
However, the 5.0L may require that you go down one # in props. Your WOT RPM must remain within specs for the engine, but you may loose some speed!

If you are considering building an engine, there are some advantages over that of the GM built engines.
