The transom bracket tilts outward from the stern, so the bolts tilt upward from the outside to the inside of the motor box. The inside width of the transom bracket is 1.5 inches. How do I hold the drill angle through the outside bolt hole so it comes thru the inside bolt hole? Tips and tricks are welcome. Many thanks for your help, PW
My boat hauler solved this problem, as he has done many times for me over the past 15 years. We used the old transom board as a pattern and cut the basic shape. Before mounting the board in the transom bracket, we stuck a bolt thru the empty bracket to see the path it followed: angled slightly up and toward the middle of the boat from the outside bracket hole to the inside. He the freehand drilled halfway from the outside and halfway from the inside, eyeballing the angle until they holes met in the middle. All eight bolts are now in place and the new-to-me motor is in place.
