Hey Guys is the best replacement carb for this engine the 1409? Is there one where no modification is needed? I am shipping on to a guy that is taking my boat out of the water, which happens to be 6 hours away from where i live. I need this quick because the marina where my boats at is closing soon. Thanks.

The Guy that is fixing it wants to put on a 4142116E replacement. Supposivly the replacement for the carter thats on it now. Anyone know anything about that Edelbrock carb? Why is everyone using the 1409? Is it because of price difference? Or is it performance?

Just talked to a guy from National Carburetor and he said they do a conversion on vehicle carbs and plug all of the vac um lines that makes it coast guard approved. But said he would could leave the pcv valve open. So is this possible to get a 1409 converted without having to drill and tap?

Yes and yes!

That guy is wrong and DANGEROUS! Auto carbs flood on the manifold; marine carbs flood internally. And vacuum has nothing to do with CG approval.

But said he would could leave the pcv valve open.

I certainly hope so!

No. I bitched at Edelbrock for years over this but.... Not hard to do, however.

Ok thanks...that being said...is it a big deal if I don't us the PVC valve just to get it on the trailer this year? Since I am having someone else install this carb because I am6 hrs away.

Not a problem. It's there to help burn condensation off before it builds up
over time and turns to sludge. 1409's are installed just the way they
come and no one would even know to drill them if not for all the expert
advice your getting here. I'm pretty sure the old AFB's had the port so
there was time I 'assumed' it had to be a CG reg. but like Jeff said, even
Edelbrock doesn't know why it's not there anymore.

The hose clamp on the fuel line in the picture is not Coast Guard approved, no clamps between the fuel pump and carb. The surveyor always checks this on my insurance survey.

I installed new Edelbrocks on my boat this last spring and they ran great all summer. No performance or fuel consumption difference but the fuel smell after shutdown is gone so my wife is happy.

The fuel inlet is on the opposit side as the original so take some extra hose and fittings with you.

You just tap the big hole in the front ....already drilled to the correct size...then drill out the bottom to connect the 2 passages

Not as bad as I thought it was...
