Replacement Alternator

Hi. Hope I am not beating a dead horse; searched the site for info. Helpful but not definitive.

Alternator guy went out of business while I was out of town. Had my OEM alternator from my rr 440 in for rebuilding and now it's lost. What's the preferred item for replacing this? I could probably track down an original, but reckon there are superior solutions out there...

Old alt had dual pulleys - does new one need the same setup?

I do a lot of slow boating, so I guess there are different ways to proceed re regulators, exciters etc.

Thanks. Great resource here. Also have questions re setting up dual batt banks - house/start - in twin engine vessel, but that probably ought to be another post (any primers or pointers greatly appreciated).

Then don't let anyone talk you into one wire alternators--they don't tend to stay "on" at low speeds.

If your old one had dual V-belt pulleys, you'd better replace it with a similar one or you'll have all kinds of alignment problems.
