Replace waterpump 1970 20hp Johnson

I removed the bolts holding the lower unit and it seperates about 3 inches.

It appears there is a bolt or key holding the unit at the top.

How do I release the shaft at the top? It moves up and down with the gear shift.

Did you disconnect the shift linkage?

oval cover starboard side of exhaust housing- remove (2 screws) and then remove the lower screw inside there to separate the shift linkage
