I had a exuast manifold leak a

I had a exuast manifold leak at the rear of my manifold.My mechanic took the manifold off and found a piece missing from the lip on the cylinder head broken off and patched with some type of steel so it didn't leak.He took the cylinder head off and we had the lip welded.My mechanic had a bad motor cycle accident and is out of commission.My question is can I install this or is it to big a job.
