replace bilge pump general info ?

I have an 1989 Maxum 17' 3.0 Mercruiser I/O and the bilge pump is not working. Looks like the original Atwood pump and separate float assm. hasn't worked for some time. It was full of debris and crap, and looks like the engine oil may have been drained out the bottom at some point and not cleaned up well. After I removed the pump and float from under the engine (yeah, that was a pain) I'm wondering if I can use one of the generic one piece Atwood pumps to replace it. The wiring was a little messed up but I think I can figure that out...hopefully clean up under the engine well and use a newer and simpler pump assm.???

Get a all in one pump assembly, float and pump combined......


you will have three wires,

one to battery + , This is so if you leave it in the water the bilge pump will turn on by itself.
one to manual switch on/off so you can turn it on
one to ground

Thanks, just went got an Atwood all-in-one 3wire and after cleaning up the bilge area i'll try it. looks like it will be a lot easier install compared to the removal.
