Removed allen bolts and nuts, shift rod Can rotate housing 180 deg but can not remove

Apply heat , remove crosses in place ?

I removed full outdrives 2.5 years ago no problem

Background:(1yr ago)I suspected the pds bearing needed to be replaced. drained gear oil (milky) Getting back into project now. Wonder if this u joint area could be the problem

Need more clarity!!!!

Cannot remove...... as in.... cannot lift up and out, or as in cannot get female yoke to release from PDS?????

The drive must be all the way down then lift the upper gearbox up far enough to clear the coupler for the verticle shaft. What drive are you working on? did you grease the splines for the yoke for the PDS? may need to pry on it or give it a wack with a wood block on the gearbox put a thin sheet of plywood on the int housing and lay the gearbox on it and give the gearbox a good tug. Was there water or oil in the bellows?

Stracy, when the female yoke splines become stuck onto the PDS splines (rust), they are often extremely hard to get freed up.
Also, the transmission's weight is enough to hinder or prevent any shocking (that may free up the rusted yoke/splines).

The Universal Drive Shaft is made up from: 1 male yoke, 1 center section, 1 female yoke (and 2 bearing crosses).
The center section is typically the least expensive!
I would suggest "sacrificing" the center section by cutting it at the bearing cross cap yokes at one end or the other.
(a saws-all works OK for this)

Once cut, remove the transmission.

You will now be able to pull on the female yoke with a chain and slide-hammer affair, shocking it loose.

Replace the center section when you install new bearing crosses!

And YES.... be sure to grease these splines well, and be sure to use the correct OEM drive shaft bellows.

Extend the life of your drive shaft bellows by storing the drive fully down and by aiming it straight forward. :D

Was able to remove by shocking female spline with a hammer drill one short cycle

The bellows was missing the back clamp lots of rust on ujoint. Bellows had water and rust. The spline coming from the engine had grease but there was rust/debris below the spline

I suspected the pds bearings (in a previous post)had to be replaced do to noise coming from the fly housing wheel housing

With the amount of rust and the bellows missing the back clamp could this be the problem and not the pds bearings

If you were to loose a PDS bearing, you'd be kicking yourself for not having changed it/them!

Water in this area can ruin PDS bearings, bearing crosses and can damage the main drive gear seal surface washer, of which will eventually ruin the seal.
