Removing the pinion gear.

Hi everyone, im new to the forum and was just looking to know how to remove the pinion gear from the drive shaft.

My engine is a Mercury 4.0 outboard.

I was out on the lough and run onto rocks, sheering my pinion.

Hi thanks for the reply, I cannot find exact model in manual, but this link is similar

They only difference being mine is 4.5hp. But the same shape.

Those are 4 stroke outboards - I am not aware of a 4.5 horse 4 stroke.

Is this a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke motor. It will make a major difference as far as the parts go and how to take them apart/put them back together.

You are going to have to really narrow down exactly what you have if you want advice as to how to fix it.

A picture would help or you are going to need to find the (tag) that has the serial number etc.
