hi all

i'm Leander from Belgium and i'm having a problem with my Mercury 500 thunderbolt from 1966. i want to completly remove the engine. i was able to remove everything exept the cillinders and the crankshaft+ casing. I saw a couple of bolts which look like they would seperate the motor from the part which goes into the water. the bolts where right underneed the engine. so i bolted them off, but no matther how hard i pull on it, it doesnt move at all... is there something i've forgot? or is there someone who has a good plan or video which could help me?

thanks allready

Regards Leander

Step #1 is to remove the lower unit.-----This is done to confirm that the driveshaft is not rusted solid in the crankshaft spline. How many nuts did you take off to remove the powerhead ?

thanks for the replies. i went to the link you posted and it really helps. and it shows me i bolted the right bolts loose. all 8. but its not that the crankshaft is bolted to the driveshaft or something? so actually, with a little bit of force, it has to come of?

The crankshaft is not bolted to anything.------------It often happens that the crankshaft spline is rusted solid to the driveshaft spline.-----Have you removed the lower unit for this simple check ??
