First-- this post is great! Thanks again for all the help in past.
New problem. Have 1989 Volvo 290DP, the pressurized power steering hose has dumped all my steering fluid. Removed it from the pump but can't get it off the hydrolic/slave cylinder behind the engine. Removed nipple for the clamp on return hose on slave cylinder above it to get some space but can't get off the nut on the lower pressurized line. I cut the hose and tried to use a deep socket but it still won't reach the nut on the compresssion fitting.
Do I need a clawfoot wrench I can put on a rachet-- but I'm concerned it won't fit over the hose. I assume its metric, larger than 1 inch? Size? (I already bought two sets SAE and Metric-- both too small?)
Or do I take the 'arms' off (don't know what to call them) on the steering mechanism but I can't seem to get the pins (?) out. I tried pounding a thin chisel under the cap with heat but no movement. Can I pull the cotter pin on the front arm (on the rignt side that is attached to the piston that protrouds from the cylinder and lift it up out of the way? Nothing in the manual says anything about this. Please help. Thanks.
