"I have a 1986, 27' Sea Ray Amberjack, with twin 4.3 liter engines. Changing oil is quite a challenge. The port engine is so close to the side that it is almost impossible to change the filter. Dose anyone make a remote oil filter unit for the 4.3 liter?

Thanks"

You can find it on this site or thru Merc, or your local dealer can order it in for you.

Thanks Rod. Do you know if it is necessary to pull the engine to install? Also I have not found it on this site.
Thanks again.

You should not have to pull the engine to install. You do need to get to the filter flange to bolt up brackets and fittings/hoses.

You will have to be a bit of a contortionist to get to it.
The good news is that once done, you will never have to go down there again; at least to change an oil filter.

I actually have known a couple of friends who have said that they have never changed the oil filter, even after several years operation, simply because it's too hard to get at! Believe it or not!

And we wonder why marine engines don't last long?

"I put a Mercruiser kit on my 4.3L last spring. Rod is right about being a contortionist for the tight fit putting it on but the result is an up front large capacity filter. While you're at it, put an easy oil drain kit on at the same time. I did it and oil & filter changes are a snap now.

Below is an eBay ad for the kit but the price is high. I paid $125 last Feb. for the OE kit. Just keep an eye on eBay for them.

"Warning! Be sure the adapter plate and hose connections do not leak, and check it a few times. Aso, the hoses must not be kincked or rub on a sharp edge. Finally, it will take longer for the motor to get up oil pressure in the morning, so be gentle on hte throttle!

i've installed aftermarket

i've installed aftermarket remote filter (Jegs stuff) on my race car and see no reason you can't aftermarket parts. Just pay attention to what is going to corrode in a marine environment.

"The after market remote filte

"The after market remote filter kits leave a lot to be desired. The hoses aren't anywhere near the quality of the marine version, they also don't place the new filter location on the exhaust manifold."
