"I just purchased a new oil/power steering cooler for a 1992 7.4 with a remote oil filter. I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with. I have looked over the repair manual and am unable to find a diagram of the hoses leaving the adaptor on the block. Does the hose that is offset from the center hole go into the remote oil filter, or is it the hose from the center of the adaptor?
Then I known the out lines go to the cooler then there is a hose to the adaptor. Again where does the hose from cooler attach to the adaptor. As best as I can see it does not matter what lines enters and leaves the cooler as it appears to be non-directional once the oil enters the cooler. And do I need to use tape or anything as the treads on the brass fittings and cooler appear to be pipe tread so is any sealeant nessary? I hope this makes sense!"

Think the center hole is the return and the outer hole is the pressure side of the system. Use teflon tape on the threads but be careful so no pieces stray into the oil stream.

Mista Hays:

I have been using the white pipe sealant with teflon in it. It acts as a lube when installing the fitting and then firms up somewhat in a few days.

John:

Don't overtighten the pipe fittings or you could crack the housing. Been there done that...Duhhh!
