Remote Control for E8RCOB 8hp 2-stroke 1985 outboard

I'm having a hard time trying to find what I need for a remote control setup on my Evinrude E8RCOB 8hp 2-stroke 1985 outboard. Would anyone know how to mount the cable to shift the motor into gear (and the throttle too)? If anyone has any pictures or help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Welcome Ben. These are not easy to convert to a remote control. I have an identical motor here in my extensive collection. I'm going to take a look and see what I can up with for creative ideas. Many small sailboats are here in Lake Superior and these lightweight kickers are popular. Most operators are forced to sit astern and control the motor directly.

You need the kit to install controls.----Look for it in----- accessory ------catalogue.-----Listed as NLA but it might give you the idea and help you with making the parts.

Excellent information. Thanks. I have always constructed my own parts to convert but this makes it better and consuming less time. I have plenty resources to work with here, but these kits are new to me, I never knew you could just order them up. A huge time saver if parts are available.

The whole kit is NLA but quite a few of the parts are

I've looked through the kits/accessories but the diagrams don't help much which is why I posted the question here. I don't see how these parts will connect for the shifter. The throttle is the easy part.

The bracket anchors the cables.-----The shift lever you have now is ready to accept the other end of the cable I believe.----Throttle cable is the tricky part !!!

Could you tell me which bracket I'll need that anchors the cable going to the shift arm? Yes, the arm/lever is ready to accept the end of the cable, I just can't see where a bracket would go that holds the cable in place near the shifter. If I can get that figured out, I'm good to go. I'd post a picture but it doesn't look like we can post pictures to this forum.

There are two ways you should be able to post pictures.

Click on the " insert image" icon on the tool bar

You then have a choice between uploading a picture from your own computer or linking to a picture on another website such as a photohosting site.

Vics, yes I see that insert image icon but I've tried several times to upload a picture and it doesn't work. The problem is most likely on my side.

It looks like I had my picture too big which is why it didn't upload. I made it smaller so it would upload. I really do appreciate everyone's comments and help. I've figured out how to do the throttle connect but I can't see how to mount the cable that will shift the motor. I see on the lever there's the holes for connecting the cable, but how would someone connect a brace for the cable? If there is such a brace or adapter that goes on the outside, would anyone know what the part number is? I don't see where I would screw one in unless I drilled a hole in the side (which is something I don't want to do). I've looked through the adapters on marineengine's remote control parts list but i don't see anything that looks like it would mount on the outside. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

I do believe it will be easy to determine where the bracket will mount.----I use the word " easy " a lot.----I may have a look at a cowling later today to confirm markings for mounting that bracket.----First you could not determine how it connected to the shift lever , but after looking it seems easy I think.

I just found the OMC_0431840 technical document that has pictures of the setup in it. It has the drawings for the markings of where to drill. It looks like I do have to drill holes in the motor case. I would have never thought that's what they'd have us do. I assumed it would already have the holes there in case someone wanted the remote setup. This is exactly what I needed to see how the setup goes. I'll get the parts ordered and get this setup. I'll post a picture when it's done in case someone else runs into this same problem. Thanks again everyone for your help. Also, racerone, I'd still like to see your pictures too of your setup or what you recommend. Thanks!
