"I have looked through the forum posts for info on REFLASHING 150 Opti ECU to get more power. I have found info on the 135 but not the 150. I'm not trying to make a 175. They have different heads and the such. I have a 2006 150 Opti on a 06 18.5' aluminum Fisher Sportfisher, 21" Tempest Plus running around 5400 rpm. Once GPS'd at 52.49 mph most of the time around 50 mph. Would like to get rpm up around 5650 with out changing prop pitch. Already using jackplate with 5" setback about 6" above transome. My dealer told me this boat would run 55 with a 19P aluminum prop. They're out of business now. Now that I know the real story. I found out I'm doing better than most people with simular setups. Just want a little more. Any info would be appeciated. With that alum prop and W/O jackplate 43 mph. Tried about 6 different props. That Tempest really lifts the boat out of the water. It put the bow high and the best speed. Every prop had a great hole shot. Thanks Jim"

"Are those few knots worth the fuel consumption?

Rather lose the extra ballast and save juice than burn the oilfields in search of that "little bit extra". You'd probably not even notice unless pitched against another rig down the stream.

Don't forget the EPA reg's if applicable.

In my humble opinion, save the motor and enjoy the scenery..."

"Ben
It's a apparent you missed the point. I know my rig and what it will do. I'm asking for information about REFLASHING a ECU to improve the the performance.
I work for the Largest Tractor Manufacture in the World, doing Product Developement on Diesel Engines. Everyday we try to figure out how we can run more EGR Gas through the emissions system to make our carbon footprint smaller. Without compromising power, fuel consumption and engine life. This is done by changing fuel mapping, firing pressure, injection timing, adding dual turbos and the list goes on. And of course we have to REFLASH the ECU's from time to time to accomplish some of this. If my boat had a green diesel engine on it I could make those oilfields burn. But with the 200 or so RPM that I'm trying to gain you'll still be able to drive to work and not take the bus.

So, in my NOT so HUMBLE OPINION your contribution has NO MERIT!

Remember motors are electric, engines are internal combustion."

"Jim, because of how psychotic

"Jim, because of how psychotic the EPA is about alterting the horsepower of a motor of affecting it's emissions "after production", Merc has never made public the information required to reflash the ECU's.

Additionally, Merc informs it's dealers/techs that it's illegal to reflash to anything other than "factory spec".

I suspect you may be able to get what you are after if you track down some of the "Mercury Racing Dudes".

Can't remember the forum off the top of my head (don't spend time there) but if anyone will be able to give you what you are after it's them.

Maybe try a search for "Mercury Bridgeport" - that may lead you to a forum specializing in hopping up Mercs - which is not really what you are after, but someone there will probably have the answer.

On this site we kinda follow the OEM line..."

"If it was a case of achieving

"If it was a case of achieving a better fuel comsumption, I'm in favour of any mod that wouldn't compromise reliability.

Graham has decent stat's to prove that marginal increase in HP does not, always, equate to the gain in real terms. Mostly, the consumption goes thru the roof, and reliabilty becomes a questionable issue.

So, in short, if there's more ponies needed, hang that "engine" off the transom and enjoy it for what it's worth.

Hamba khatle!"
