I noticed when I took the carb

I noticed when I took the carberator off of #2 intake one of the reed valves is not seated like the rest. Will this be a problem and are they adjustable.

They should be seated. I have at times removed and flipped over the leaf valve which resulted in having it seat properly.

"O.k, so they are removable then. I'll try turning it over when I take the intake off . Thanks again for the great info Joe. I'll let you know how it turns out. Can you buy individual valves or do you have to replace it as a set?"

We were taught never to turn the reeds over as they will break due to being stressed in the opposite direction if you have a few thou clearence it will not effect the running of the engine. so is there a problem with the way the engine has been running?

"Jamie, the only problem the engine had was it would bog out when I'd try to accelerate. I didn't know the history of this motor so I figured it would be a good idea to change all the gaskets, impeller, and rebuild the carbs. When I removed the carburator on the #2 intake I noticed one of the leaves isn't seated like the rest thats all. I just wondered if it would affect the motors performance. Maybe tomorrow I'll take a picture and try to put it up."

A small gap wont effect the performance but reversing the reeds will cause them to break and to probely destroy your engine

"yep,in fact, the brand new reeds u get, would prob have a smal gap...we used to ck w/a flashlite...the backpressure will close a small gap......also.....the indication,of bad,or sticking open reed valve,is spitting back fuel thru carb at idle, coughing etc,etc...primarily,at idle, unless broken off."
