reed valve replacement

I'm having trouble separating the cover witch hold the reed valves on my 90 hp inline 6 the bolts are out d. Do I have to drop the lower unit? The top separates but not the bottom. Dose any one know of a video pertaining to this job.
 
You do have the powerhead off the exhaust housing I hope.-----Why do the reeds need replacement ?---Just curious as they are quite reliable.
 
I was told they were bad the lower set when motor is running sucks in and blowes back out spiting gas every where. and no I dont is that achieved by unbolting the lower unit

Remove the trim cover from the bottom cowl. Powerhead nuts are behind that. Maybe look at the parts diagram for your engine to see location.
 
There is a bearing housing on the bottom of the block.----It holds the front and back of the block together.-----Best put your hammer away for now.
