reed valve body

If I sand and polish the ports that my reed valves set against ( in the reed valve body ) to as completely flat and smooth as possible will it get a better seal and help to prevent a back flow out of the carbs. ? because the reed valve bodies I have , have deep machine marks ( scratches ) from when they were made .

Are you saying that the surface of the reed cage where the reed itself meets the cage, that surface has scratches? It should not.
But, scratches anywhere else would not affect a thing.

Pics of the scratches.

yes, when the cages were manufactured they left deep milling grooves ( scratches ) in the castings , not to mention all three are badly warped . I would think they should be absolutely flat and polished smooth for a absolute seal . So I ether fixed them by making them flat and smooth or I'm going to be looking for all new ones, I'll know when I start it I guess .

Millions of these motors work just fine if it aint broke dont fix it. I doubt you hurt it any the main thing is are the leafs in good shape.

I seriously doubt that the important surface area for sealing is scratched. I don't see how the part could have made it through quality inspection when it was manufactured.
Please post pics like I suggested so we can see where these scratches are.

This motor has always spit fuel and air back out of the carbs. to the point to where when I would accelerate I would have to tap on the choke at the same time I accelerated or it would die and would not idle below about 1'000 rpm without dying and even then I had to be quick at tapping the choke every now and then to keep it running . I wish I had taken pictures of the cages to show the milling marks left in them but I didn't .
