red band 100 bad spark

ok boys n girls a mate of mine had a battery cable fall of while his motor was running just how i do not know
it is a red band 100 6 cylinder it has intermittent spark will spark once or twice when you first start cranking then again when you release the key but no spark in between .

i am thinking it is the trigger unit inside the distributor any advice would be great
we think it is a 74 model

It is definitly not a 74 model !!!!!!!!!--------71 was the last year for " red trim " on these motors.-------------------Have you tried to charge the battery ??---------Do that and try again.

ok thanks for that have changd the bttery to no avail was told it was a 74 but the guy wasnt sure

Lots of motors sold that are represented as being newer than they really are. As racerone says,redband finished in or around '71,and I'm guessing switchbox,'cause it's a dizzy model

71 was the last year of red " band " trim !!-------------Try inspecting / cleaning the distributor cap---------Do not force any parts as they are expensive.

ok all im really appreciative of all the help it has a large cdi in front of the carby and 3 wires into the distributor havent got the serial handy will get it tomorrow
