Rectifier wiring for 1986 60HP OMC Outboard

I bought a new rectifier for my motor, but it has 3 yellow wires and one red. The old one on the motor has 2 yellow wires and one red. But the old one was maybe not correct. The red wire had been disconnected by the previous owner. I was manually charging my battery every few weeks. So I thought a new rectifier is the way to go to get it back to normal. Now I don't know if maybe I was sold the wrong one and if I have the right one I don't know what to do with the three yellow wires. There are only two yellow posts on the bus bar.

Re: Rectifier wiring for 86 60HP OMC Outboard

I am coming up with confusing results trying to look this up.

The BRP parts list says it should have a 3 wire rectifier (part#583299) but Sierra and Mallory are both coming up with a 4 wire one!

Look at the number of yellow wires coming from the stator coils to the terminal block
If there are 2 yellows you should use the 3 wire one equivalent to the the above part number.
If there are 3 yellow then you have the correct 4 wire one.
Connect the yellows from the stator to the yellows of the rectifier.

The red wire is the DC positive output from the rectifier. There should be a connection on the terminal block for it. From where there should be a connection to the battery wiring ... at the starter solenoid? The rectifier case is the DC negative connection

You can if you wish use the 4 wire one in place of the 3 wire one. Do not use one of the yellow wires, just park it on a spare terminal of the terminal strip if there is one.
