I'm sure this isn't the first diagnostics thread, but I was wondering what fellow forum members actually use and recommend for a 2014 VP V8 380 C-D? I believe it has the "OBD-M" style connector under the engine cover if I read the tag right.
Here's my scenario: I've read people say pros about the Rinda Techmate and the Diacom systems; I have a purpose built Toughbook I use for other car work in my garage, so wondering if the added expense/adapter cost is worth it, and what extra features might be available?
I think on the Diacom I've read you can download the scan data and graphs, etc. Anything else I'm not considering? I'm coming from the world of a Carb'ed Merc 350 Mag where diagnostics were all touch, hearing, and sight, so with a VP motor that has more sensors, cats, and emissions control than the space shuttle, it's time to move into the new century.
