"hi, i made the mistake of pur

"hi, i made the mistake of purchasing a boat from a friend of a friend without running it first.
i took it out and it ran rough, i had a local shop check it (evinrude 112 1995) and he said i was not firing on one cylinder and another only had 5-10 psi compression (the others were 120-125)he suggested complete rebuild $1800-2200. should i rebuild it or just try and find a newer used? its on a 1995 wellcraft 190 cf. thanks"
 
more than likely you have a bu

more than likely you have a burnt cylinder generally it would be cheaper to rebuild but you may run across a good deal on a used one. even if you rebuild or buy a used powerhead you will still have to deal with the issue of no fire on one cylinder which could be a number of causes.

"If you can do some work yourself, take it apart till you find out why there's no compression. Take lots of pictures as you take it apart so you can tell where things were before you took things off. It could be a head gasket, or something stupid like that. Many times something thats easy to fix, but a mechanic may take forever, charge you for a forever job. Then again, it may be junk. You'll never know till you or someone takes it apart."
