I have just rebuilt my engine johnson 140 1979 and I am trying to get the right timming for my firing sequence and i am having problems lining the crank with the ingnition system ??? HELP any help would be great its all back together and I really want to get it started now that all cylinders have awesome compresion thanks Mitch

I'm not sure if I understand your question properly, however.......................

Be advised that your engine is a 1980 model, not a 1979, however that does not present any problem to you.

Do not be concerned with the timing as it would be impossible for you to make any mistakes in that area due to the fact that your engine is a 2 stroke engine, not a 4 stroke engine that requires a camshaft in perfect timing with the crankshaft. The timing is syncronized simply by the key in the taper of the top portion of the crankshaft aligning with the keyway slot in the flywheel.

The firing order is simply cylinders 1,2,3,4. Standing in back of the engine, facing the spark plugs, the cylinders are numbered as follows:

2.....1

4.....3

Let us know if this answers your question, and if not, explain further.

yes you are correct about the 1980 my typo and I was looking for somekind of points or something but I see that I am in to testing my stater , CDI and coils would you be able to give me the voltage/ amp that I am looking for out of these pc's

Thanks again Mitch

Mitch.... Sorry, I'm really not into that. I have easier methods of troubleshooting that I use. Just exactly what problem are you having anyhow?

Well I have just finish restoring this old engine and have been having a problem getting it started everything seems to be working fine just am not able to get it going, all sparks are present and fuel is getting in the cylinders just not going any suggestions ??

What are the colours of wires from the powerpacks to the ignition coils -----Colour of wire to coil # 1 is ??----------Flywheel key has been checked? Flywheel properly torqued ?

Those wires as you have them listed are routed incorrectly!

As mentioned prviously, standing in back of engine and facing the spark plugs, the cylinders are numbered as follows, and the coil wire colors must be as listed:

(Orange/Blue)..2.....1..(Orange/Blue)

(Orange(.........4.....3..(Orange)

Bingo Thank you she lives started right away as soon as I fliped the wires .
now for some fine tuning and we are off fishing .

Big thanks for all the help
