RDS 23 starter motor

The starter on my '61 RDS 23 is toast. Are there any others that are interchangeable with the Autolite MDW 4104M?

Why not just carry the one you have to a generator/starter repair shop and have it reworked ?

Thanks for responding. Already did that. Shop owner said it would be prohibitively expensive to rework it.

Most of the 28 / 33 /40 hp motors of the 1960's will have a starter on them that fits yours.

Yes, he took it completely apart. I trust this guy as he has been in business for 40+ years, but I will try to find another shop. Thanks.

stopped by an old friends outboard repair business for coffee...him and his son have a 50 year inventory of used parts..mostly organized and in bins..mentioned they could make good money in sale of parts...they said they decided not to sell anything as demand for used 2 cycle parts will only increase in the years to come..if you can find a shop like that and they install the starter they will stand behind it...
