"Hi, I just purchased a boat used. All is going well but I do have a hard time with the price tag for a new Raw Water Strainer for a Volvo Penta AQ125A engine. My strainer has a broken section where the lid meets the housing. I did place a rubber seal on it and it doesn't seem to be leaking but I have only tested it outside of the water with the hose. Is this something I should replace? Will it burst open in the lake and fill the boat? Please help and thanks in advance for humoring my very nivice question."

I can do that but would rather not as there is not much left to the bullet to bite. It was a used boat and needed multiple things. Is it possible to run the boat like this or is the preasure enough to blow the cap off? The cap is sealing. Thanks for the fast reply.

"I had the same problem and just put some silastic around the top of the lid to help the sealing so no water seeped out.its a fix that usually prolongs the problem a bit, but you will have to eventually replace it.There is not to much pressure in the strainer and I got away with even sealing it with duct tape one time and used it for some 3/4 months.The reason I did this was I have been looking on EBAY and eventually I purchase one for (Australian)$20.00."
