Raw Water Pump

Could some of you folks tell me how much resistence there should be when trying to turn the raw water pulley by hand with the belt disconnected on a 1987 big Block Crusader? I see on the back and front of the shaft where water has been leaking and I suspect some wear and maybe some play in that area but do not know if this is normal. Also, is there a special procedure for removing the impeller? Thanks

Takes about 10 foot pounds of torque.

If its wet, you should be able to spin it with one hand; if its dry, a helluva lot more effort will be required.

If you can see where the front seal has been leaking, time for an overhaul.

Thanks guys. Started to take the pump apart and when I took out the inside retainer clip and then the sring and seat the RUSTY bearings started falling out the front of the pump!! Needless to say ordered the Major Service Kit and am going to rebuild. As always, Thanks to the guys on this site for all the help.

that's what usually happens when the front seal starts to leak.
