Hi i have just got a Mariner 40 which i was told is circa 1990 ,this is a twin cyl electric and recoil start,it runs a dream but i now need some service items such as impeller and fuel pump diaphragms ,the problem is it has no identiforcation no on the plate only a 6 figure no punched into one of the engine core plugs ,I am told this may be a yamaha hybrid ,could some one give me a bit more infomation on this engine ,the no is 542971

If the first part of the number is 6E9,electric start,long shaft with power tilt, then it is '89.It is a Yamaha,just painted Mariner colours.Post a pic

Thanks for that but there is no prefix only 542971 stamped in the core plug ,it is standard shaft manual tilt with electric and recoil start.no pics available at present ,it is painted grey with a thin red line round the cover which according to the pictures makes it a 1990 .
