Rainwater in Engine

I have a '96 4.3LX, Thunderbolt Ign.,. 4 barrel carb that was flooded with rainwater, due to a crack in the breather cover. It was in there for several weeks before I figured it out, drained cylinders through spark plug hole, fogged the engine and ran it the rest of the season. Then I winterized, changed oil and let it sit for about six months.
Got out again and have been running it but now I have read posts about how I should have flushed the engine with multiple oil changes, ect. so I am wondering what to do about it at this point. The merc oil looks fine but I am concerned about the internals and rust. What should I be looking for? Would it have been contained to the intake and cylinders?
Thanks for any help.
