Drive wooden wedges between the lower unit and exhaust housing, tap, tap, tap, and wait. Turn engine upside down and start drizzling PB Blaster down the driveshaft to have it invade the spline area to try to get it unstuck. Continue repeating this process until it comes loose. It may take days. BE PATIENT!

If the lower unit is not separating from the mid section, with the thinking that the drive shaft is stuck within the crank shaft, loosen the bolts that attach the lower unit to the mid section. Maybe a quarter of an inch.

Put the boat into the water. Start and run the motor at idle.

Hopefully the crank shaft bore will open up due to the temperature rise and the vibration and gravity will do the trick to let the lower unit start to slide down.

The earlier post was he couldn't get the gearcase off after removing the two nuts on that model. Wood wedges work if there is enough gap, other wise remove the powerhead fasteners and pull up on a flywheel puller with a ring attached to the flywheel while the engine is strapped to a boat or bench and apply constant pressure with a hoist or come-a- long to separate the powerhead from the driveshaft. Some folks make the mistake that prying or beating the lower unit off will obtain results at the expense of broken castings and an engine headed to the curb. I live in saltwater north Florida and learned many tricks how to get them apart in one piece.
