Is there a way to lock the shaft on this engine? I'm concerned I'll destroy the shear key (it has one correct?) if I don't. I'm putting electric start on my pull start so I have to swap the flywheel. Also where can a guy get a wiring schematic for a starter? How about directing me where to get all manufacturer manuals for this engine? I have the original part # for the starter and the engine is a J25RCEM. Thanks in advance.

There is no way to "lock the crank" when removing the flywheel. Normally you hold the flywheel with a strap wrench and then remove the flywheel nut.

Alternately, if you use an impact wrench, because it's not putting "constant" torque on the nut, you can remove the flywheel nut without securing or holding the flywheel.

This site, among many others, sells both OMC/BRP factory service manuals or aftermarket manuals (such as Seloc's) which would contain all the information and diagrams/pictures that you would need...

If your flywheel has a ring gear on it, the tool-de-jour seems to be the ratcheting flywheel holder-turning tool made by Snap-On. I got a used one on Ebay without mortgaging the house.
