Quick silver throttle control help

Hi guys,

I’m trying to wiring a tachometer in, I’ve got the tachometer output wire in the original motor harness which did have a tachometer connected with original control box but don’t know where to ground it to since the only wires running from the old tachometer only went into the original control box and wires were too corroded to identify them before removing it. I’ve put a quicksilver throttle control in as original was rooted, internal cam failure and Since doing it though none of my accessories works and I’m really confused

Motor runs and turns off perfectly fine

Motor is 1975 mercury 65 hp 650 thunderbolt red band

Last year for red band motors was 1971, you may want to clarify what you have. 1971 was a 4 cylinder, 1975 was a 3 cylinder.

When I got a HIN number on my boat the tech looked it up and that’s what he told me. When I was looking up wiring diagrams for the engine harness I searched for 1975 and it was correct

HIN is Hull Identification Number, it has nothing to do with the model year of the engine. How many spark plugs does it have? What does the ENGINE serial number read?

Ayuh,...... Is the dash grounded,..??
Without a ground path, nothing is going to work right,....

4 Cylinder. S/N: 2717558. Yes I’m fully aware of what a HIN number is, I had to get one put on my boat, when I did that’s when the boat tech told me what year the motor was. I asked him if he was able to find out because I was curious

Found a broken ground. All my accessories work now but not my tacho. Tacho is aftermarket saas tacho that is compatible with a 4 cylinder as the original tacho is broken

some of the older mercury outboards use a unique tachometer and some have 'converters' to make them work...
