Quick question on 95 4cyl 40hp merc lower unit removal

I just got a 95 40hp merc and need to take the lower unit off. I got the 3 bolts off but the lower unit wont budge. I tapped on it with a rubber mallet but it still didnt move. Tried it in neutral, forward and reverse Before I go pounding on it, I wanted to check and see if there is another bolt, screw or linkage that I should be aware of. Anyone have experience with this?

Many Thanks

Look for more fasteners and put the hammer away for now !

Haha. Thanks racerone. The guy I bought it from ran it in salt so I wouldn't be surprised if its just a bit stuck where the lower unit meets the upper. I havent found any additional fasteners though I suppose there could be one under the cover at the end of the shaft. Ive removed the LU on an 83 merc and it was just the three bolts on the bottom so im tempted to say that this one is the same as they didnt change the lower units until 98...but im not positive. Anyone who knows for sure, let me know!

Do not know if this will help, i have 2001, 4 stroke. Lower unit extremely hard to budge. Looking from rear. On left side of lower unit there is a very small indention that i carefully pried with large screwdriver, which for me, moved lower unit ever so slightly but enough to insert thin screwdriver around lower unit foot. After releasing about 1/8 inch, lower unit dropped out on its own, almost damaging the fin, as I was on concrete.

I'm thinking there is four (4) bolts holding it on.

One on each side near the nose of the lower unit, one right in front of the trim tab and one "under" the trim tab (take of the tap and then the bolt is tucked up in there) - any chance you missed that one???
