I have not yet been able to dig into this but I carry a new Carter fuel pump on board IN CASE ( a lot of just in case stuff ). I read briefly about "clocking" on a fuel pump...very briefly so I have yet to understand what it means.

IS it simply the location of the input and output ports or is it more involved that that?

You've got it. Here's one reference that's marine:

Just be aware that due to the mounting holes in the case components, not all 'positions' are available on a particular pump.

Usually, the critical one on the boat is the outlet fitting - lining it up with the steel line. The inlet typically has a few options due to the flex hose connecting it."

"Mark,

Once again thanks to you and to all who provide the information to help keep things in top running condition.

The beauty of all of this is that : While you can "call the man" for so many of the difficulties that arise in the mechanics of a boat..YOU CAN'T MAKE THAT CALL 25-30 miles offshore and by developing enough experience, I feel secure that I actually can make it back SHOULD that need arise.

I felt the same way riding vintage motorcycles across the country ( now that's a challenge )and never ever got stuck

"You are quite welcome!

Actually, I've been told by more than one than you can make that call but boy, you sure don't want to see the invoice when he hands it to you.

You are certainly right about self reliance, especially offshore. The best part about it is the few clams you don't have to share can go into the fuel tank so you can take another trip and, do it on your schedule, too."
