Which way does the thermostat

Which way does the thermostat go in the Block with the coil end down in block or does the coil end go up in the thermostat goose neck. I try to put the coil end of the thermostat into the block and will not go that way.Its like the opposite way of a car.I always thought that the coil end goes down intoo block??? But it won't go that way in my Aq125a engine. I have a thermostat that was in boat that i found and says Volvo on it and i did check to see if it work in hot water too. It does work but could not see numbers and temp on it because its been in boat a while got rust I clean it up but still can't read numbers on it. Its one of those thermostat that has the safty device case it fails. I put thermostat in with the coil end upward hope its the right way. IS IT ??????

"Here's way to look at it

"Here's way to look at it that will remove any confusion (forever): note the way the water flows out the block and through the T-stat. Next, find the element on the T-stat that is exposed to the water flow (and expands as it heats up, opening the valve). Aim this element at the water coming AY it. That's how it goes in. Doesn't matter which T-stat or engine, they all work the same.

"If you check the "cooling

"If you check the "cooling" chapter on the SELOC manual, you will find out that the thermostat must be installed with the rubber seal agaist the block. The spring side of the thermostat goes into the block and, if installed backwards, it will not fit.

The thermostat should begin opening at 180ºF and be fully open at 198ºF.

I strongly suggest that anyone working on their own engine and/or outdrive should first get hold of the appropriate repair manual for their equipment. This will save them a lot of frustration."

"Hello ,in my engine aq125a ,The spring side will not go into the block. It will not go....It will fit the sping side up in that elbo but the the spring side will not go down in block it don't fit. The rubber seal yes is on the block side but , i can't get the spring side to go in the block it will not fit. Thats why i asked the Question.
