Hi, this is a great site...Thanks!
I just installed an 89 classic 50, 45 hp merc on my pontoon. It's running very well after carbs and fuel pump rebuild. But I'm not sure if the throttle cable linkage is correct. Could someone go through the procedure for adjusting the cable at the engine side. And the shift cable as well. Thanks in advance!

First determine which is the throttle and which is the shift; (shift moves first) put handle in N then move the slider on motor into N, put barrel into anchor hole and attach cable end. When the throttle handle is in N the throttle cable should be ready to put into the anchor, pull the throttle lever on the motor back until it stops on the idle stop then attach cable. If the connector is off position turn barrel until it fits into anchor.
Push throttle control F and watch the carbs open - they should stop when the screw hits the piece on the motor; don't let the carb butterflies do the stopping there should be about .015 thousands travel left.
