Question about Steering Systems

"My old fiberglass Performer b

"My old fiberglass Performer boat with a 1965 Evinrude 40HP motor has the old style standard cable/pulley steering system , where one cable runs along both sides of the boat, and I want to replace/update the steering system a bit, but not looking for expensive hydraulic or rack/pinion steering systems.

I am reconfiguring the interior of my boat, moving seats,a side steering console and other mods. I need to have a basic steering system whereas the cable(s) only runs along one side of the boat. I was looking at the Rotary sytems but dont quite understand the concept on how they connect to older outboards with previous old style cable/pulley steering systems.

can someone please describe how these steering systems work to replace an outdated cable/pulley system? Do they use a rod that pushes and pulls the front of the outboard motor to steer?

thanks.

If you check around the marine

If you check around the marine sites on the web there are kits for making such a change over.
The big part is a piece needed to hold the cable to the stern. It's more a thing of where to mount it. The old boats are hard to find a good place to put this mount.
These kits are not hard to find and do not cost very much and depending on the kit it will have everything you need.
There are a few places listed on this site that may have what you are looking for.
