A friend is selling his 25 Hor

A friend is selling his 25 Horse Mariner motor (about 50 running hours) - may be 10 to 15 years old. What should I offer him?

"Bob, there were/are 2 different Mariner models. Both were sold as a Merc product. One was built by Yamaha and the other by Merc.

The Merc version can be considered slightly more valuable since it is still in production (outside the US) which means parts are still completely available - plus the Merc version had (in my opinion) a far superior ignition system.

If it is between 10-15 years old it will be the Merc model and if so, would be one of the best 2 stroke 25 horse motors ever built - so definately a worthwhile buy.

If I was selling a 1990-something model in the used market I would be looking for between 750-1000 bucks depending on condition - a dealer would easily want almost twice that amount. The 25 horse and under motors hold their value to a greater extent than larger motors of the same vintage."
