I was very fortunate, [blessed actually], to find a very clean ,shiny white, mint looking 30 HP 1993 Johnson, with controls for $300,, easily a $1000 motor in my area... the seller was wonderful, held the motor for me on my word that I would come get it next day, and rejected offers to come get it a day before i could get there, [300 miles round trip] even when they offered more money... It was well appreciated, and i know I would not have been so thoughtful and considerate as he was.. It came with OMC branded controls in a configuration I am unfamiliar with.. Not Binnacle, nor in a side mount box.. It is just the handle and levers that uses a non integral harness/key.. I do think my controls and harness from the 1996 30 HP johnson its replacing [big red OMC connector] will work, but I would like to be able to do a few things..
1- Use the warning alarm thats in the new harness.. There is none with my 1996 setup, I think the controls are older...
2- somehow mount this new looking set of controls.. The handle is on a spline but has no visible means of staying on, it just slides off.. Also there seems to be no frame, or way to attach this thing like existing mounting bolt holes etc.. I think it came integral with the boat when new, and doesn't use a mounting system I am familiar with... Anyone help with some clarification?? Controls work and are smooth, cables look brand new just like the motor, but again, its a different setup than any OMC control set I know... If nothing else, my old harness and controls are fine, but if I need to use them , I would like to be able to adapt the warning alarm,,, That alarm not being on my 96 motor is the reason it overheated in the first place.. checked and it was pumping fine, no issue, but a few miles down the lake the pump melted down, and the engine damage was already done.. Next time, I would like to know the pump failed, and shut it down in time.... any help as always is well appreciated//// bob
