Question about Mercruiser serial #/ Engine

I have a boat that has a Mercruiser alpha one engine with a serial #OM694396. I'm having problems with determining what year the motor is actually from.The boat is a 1996 Sea Pro, but I was told that the motor was replaced a few years ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
 
here is one place to look

It appears from what I can find out on the internet, it is a generic replacement Mercruiser engine based on serial number.

Here is a link to a parts page within that serial number. that block was used on both alpha and bravo set ups.

Click on the first in the list. It appears to be a 1996 and newer block.......hope this helps........

Your engine serial number (0M694396) belongs to model number 424106LRS. MERCRUISER 4.3L MPI ALPHA DRAIN that was manufactured on 12/15/2003

I am currently trying to sell the boat and I am looking for some kind of proof that the engine was replaced. (I don't have the original paperwork)
Would you mind telling me where you found that information or where I could go to look it up.
Also, where on the engine would there be additional information about the year or engine numbers? Is there a tag or usual spot they would put it?

No problem. Either a mercruiser dealer should be able to help you out, Or to get some basic info you could punch in any of your mercruiser serial numbers in the Mercury parts express.com.;)

If it's a mercruiser replacement engine/Block, There should be a metal tag that is riveted on the lower rear starboard side of the engine block just above the starter motor with a engine serial number on it.

I can tell you this engine # (0M694396) was never registered with mercruiser back then, So there is not much info out there about it.
