I have a Tracker Pro17 with a 25 evinrude on it. The gas tank is mounted on the boat. My question is when the mixed fuel sits it seperates causing the oil to sit on the bottom. I like to start my motor (in the driveway using muffs and hose) occasionally for easy start up when I get to the lake. Is it OK to do this since the fuel line pulls from the bottom of the tank? Is it straight oil that is going into the carb? I believe that you could seriously foul some plugs by doing this. I really dont want to drag the boat around town for a while to mix the gas oil in the tank prior to starting it at home. Thanks in advance! Steve

"Steve, The gas and oil will not separate. The only issue is that if you have water in the gas, the water will sit on the bottom of the tank and be drawn into the motor. The motor will obviously not run, however, if you use the E-10 gas (w/ ethanol)the ethanol will absorbe the water, and if conditions are correct, seperate from the gas/oil mix, and sink to the bottom. You now will try to burn straight alcohol in the motor. This is harmful. Everytime you go to fill the tank, dump out any residual if it is a few oz, so the water will not build up. If it has sat for a while, siphon the bottom of the tank into a clear container and look for non-oil colored liquid on the bottom. This will be the alcohol/water mix."

"Chris, THANKS! This exact thing happened to me over the winter... I put ethanol gas in it and also the neighbor kids took my gas cap off so it was an absolute nightmare! Thank goodness I found a great (very reasonable) mechanic that got me fixed up! I appreciate your lengthy reply! Have a great summer on the water! Steve"
