Quadrajet Choke Pull Off; and stuck float

HEY ALL! Happy Summer!

2 Carb Qs:

1980 Crusader 270 Quadrajet original carbs, dont know if-when rebuilt

The choke pull off on the Port engine in non-functional. Since I have the primary choke tied open (and it will stay this way) does the broken choke pull off affect the operation of the top butterfly valve on the secondary?

Mr Lazy (me) knows that the Starboard carb has a float stuck/sunk down. I bought a rebuild kit and a new float. Should I just replace the float and skip the rest? the primarys dont leak gas and everything is misting properly when I goose it. I HATE TO MESS IT UP!!!

What is float level for the float? I cant find on the net anywhere...

Same as the old one! Study the old float, measure its height, and do the same.

The secondaries will open only if the choke is wide open, so you should be okay.

the choke pulloff (vacuum break) does control the air valve (over the secondaries). Proper operation of the q-jet requires the vacuum break to function as well as having the linkage adjusted correctly.

If you are going to take the carb apart and you have a full kit and a float, I'd suggest changing the needle, seat, and float at a minimum. It is also highly likely, given your description, you'll need to use the air horn gasket as well. The accelerator pump will also be touched when the air horn is separated so changing it makes sense, too.

The float level really isn't too sensitive, within a reasonable range. The OEM/boat builder never modify the 'spec' once the installation is complete so the 'spec' is usually generic, at best. Starting with 5/16" is a reasonable figure.
 
Question for the pros. If the choke pull off is not working, could this possibly cause a vacuum leak that may cause poor/rough idle unless that port on the carb is capped/plugged?
 
Like Jeff said...get a vacuum tester so you know if it leaks. Leaking usually means not working but not the converse.
 
The choke pull off "unlocks' the air control flaps over the secondaries. It has to work if you want to get full power.

They are not available in an autoparts store - need to go to a marine engine parts store - about $12 - just replaced one last weekend.
